Various Projects

I apologize for this post being a boring horn tooter. Briefly, Fleeing Peace has gone live at Kindle and Smashwords.

So the next two ebooks coming along will be CJ's Second, and Senrid. The next two being written up are Liere's romance, Now Serves an Old Creed, and Us Against Them; in the print book department, the edits on Slam Justice for Viking and Blood Spirits for DAW (with Banner of the Damned waiting in the wings), and writing wise, I'm finishing the second Banner one, and beginning the research for the third Kim novel, which dives back in time for part of it. Then after that comes the whole arc beginning with Ship Without Sails--all of which are written, just needing a hard second draft.

Okay, for anyone who isn't snoring:

Family things have been extra-special in the "I really hate it when the phone rings" sense so I've been a tad distracted; my solace is to bury myself in work, and of course reading. The Andre Norton Jury finished, and I was reading so fast I need to revisit some of those books, to talk about them more coherently. This is such a good time for YA!!!

:hugs: Ugh. I'm sorry for the family stuff. :/

And, eek! You are so busy, but I hear you on the work-escape stuff. (I can't read for anything right now, which is a first...manga is about my cerebral limit when my brain is in hyperdrive.) Am eager to hear about the new YA stuff...I don't think I read anything new last year (other than stuff by people at Sirens...)...

Oh, honey... I hope things get better on the family front, for whatever value of 'better' is possible.

I'm excited that you are prepping so many ebooks! (...though the Fleeing Peace page doesn't have pricing info yet, I guess it takes a bit for everything to go through. ETA: *There* is is - purchased!). The upcoming releases are all very exciting (especially Banner of the Damned... I've been waiting for the rest of that story since you first put a bit of it up many, many years ago. I've loved each revision I've seen bits of, and I can't wait to finally immerse myself in the story and characters....

Did Fleeing Peace get a rewrite? (and will Senrid?) I might just be the wrong age bracket for them, but there were some things that nagged at me when I read the draft you put up here. (I'm still very fond of them, of course!)

...and Slam Justice as a "real" book! The kids will be very excited!

Will BotD be complete in 2 volumes?

Is the 3rd Kim novel a prequel, or a third episode with lengthier flashbacks? We're all looking forward to the publication of the second one! (Did I ever tell you how *fabulous* the edits were on that? I think I read two previous drafts & enjoyed them, but the, often subtle, shifts you did for the final draft jumped the book to another level - and adding a little to the ending, rather than stopping with the letter was another good call, imho.)

You have such a gift for story and character... even in the roughest of rough drafts. When you polish those stories up, they shine so beautifully - and some of the glow in my mind and heart months or even years after reading them.

When we got our Kindle, the Inda series was our second set of purchases (Bujold's Vorkosigan series was the first... in fact it was the availability of an e-ARC of Cryoburn which tipped us over the edge in to Kindle ownership), and I indulged in a leisurely re-read. It was the first time I've really savored the books rather than devouring them.. not sure if it was my mood, or a different stage of unbounded enthusiasm for the series... but it was a delightful experience!

We've since purchased all your other ebooks - both for the pleasure of reading them at will, and because our Kindle has a secondary function as a wonderfully portable security blanket... having as many of our favorites as possible on it is deeply satisfying!

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the nominees, when you have a chance, there's one I won't read (popular series, but very much not my thing), one we bought b/c of the subtitle (how many 11 year old sword wielding Orthodox Jewish girls are there in fiction?), the others are, to varying degrees, intriguing, but I haven't tried any of them yet.

Since the baby was born I've been doing much more re-reading... and much of that is comfort reading (I reread lots of Heyer, for the first time since high school.) Perhaps when all his one year molars are through, I'll be getting more sleep and feel more adventurous in my reading...

Take care of yourself, my dear.

Senrid got a buffing, but structurally it's the same--however I will make it plainer on the front end stuff that it is really three stories put together (three novellas) that are interconnected.

Banner of the Damned would actually be one story at 200 k, roughly (about the length of King's Shield) but that is prohibitively expensive these days, so it is being split into two. But the first one does kind of have closure, so I think it will work okay, and I am trying to talk them into releasing them relatively close together.

Re the third Kim one, the way I see it now is, most of it will be around 1809, then jump up to the present for an important event six months after the events of Blood Spirits.

Congrats on the new baby!

I was so happy to see Hereville on the Norton list--and there were many others that gave me so much pleasure. I didn't think the last Collins book very good, but it's an enormously popular series, so it didn't surprise me to see it on the list. However, I was thrilled about Megan Whalen Turner's--it was sharply disappointing when KING didn't get the Neb when it deserved it so.

Very sorry about the home stuff, and (but?) I empathize with the respite that work can be in those circumstances. And of course, in this case, we-the-readers all benefit too from all the books coming available.

Good luck with all the busy! I'm looking forward to reading it all!

Since you haven't mentioned any new CJ notebooks recently, I was wondering if there was going to be another notebook at some point?

And I hope things get better on the family front.

Aw, writing updates from you are never a snorefest! It's exciting to know that you are actively working on new (well, relatively new/as-of-yet-unpublished?) projects.

So excited that Senrid's in e-book format too! (was wondering when that would happen)

Hope things are settling on the family front and am looking forward to any new books you might recommend in the near future. :)

Best wishes for things calming down a bit.

I normally check my favorite authors on amazon every few weeks, but have been busy myself the past few months.

Imagine my joy when I check back with LiveJournal and the to amazon to discover FOUR books I can download to my Kindle.

Thank you for a wonderful March present!

Actually, I feel like I've missed several updates with all this news coming through! Fleeing Peace happens immediately after Senrid, right? (Am trying to use NewsBoyHat's StoryTimeLine to parse it out, and I think I'm right, but I'm also discovering I need a log in to access some of the synopses. Whoops!)

I also feel like maybe I missed a CJ journal or two coming out....

But yay for writing as solace! Hope the phone stops ringing in an annoying fashion. :)

Hurrah for new books!

I'm just about halfway through Hunt Across Worlds and oh, it's just so nice to find myself back on Sartorias-deles. It is seriously one of my favorite worlds to visit. I can't wait to start Fleeing Peace!

I've mostly been a lurker on this community for a long time, but I just wanted to say, I'm so happy to see you had a new book out! I just bought "Fleeing Peace" pretty much the minute I saw this post. Ah, Kindle for Mac is my economic downfall. But now I'm debating with myself about whether I read it now or wait until next weekend, when I'm on spring break. Now will probably win. I was glad to see in the earlier comments that you're a Megan Whalen Turner fan. She's one of my favorites, but very few of my friends have read her.

This sounds so incredibly hard-working and productive - and is wonderful for all your readers (like myself)! I am looking forward to all of the coming books, sounds like it will be a good year (for us, at least).

I have just started with *Fleeing Peace* and after the first three chapters I can say that it was very hard to put it down (to get some sleep - heavy working day ahead). It feels very fast-paced, keeping you glued to the book. Kitty is as annoying as ever, but it is easy to forgive her. Nice, that it starts right after *Senrid*, I definitely have to read all of them in the right order, some day.
Well, I am looking forward to this evening when I will snug up on my sofa with the next chapters.

Another question: I noticed that sometimes your ebooks are priced differently at different sites like amazon or smashwords - what does that mean and where will you the author see more money at the end? I suppose higher pricing at amazon just means they take more for themselves?

Exactly. The books will always be cheaper at Book View Cafe (and with more e-styles._ It just takes more time to get them up there, as it's all volunteer labor.

Thank you! I do so hope you like it!
